Top Diets

By Will H. of PJMS

There are many diets out there and with the recent push for healthier eating, the world of dieting can be very confusing. One of the most common diets is the Atkins diet. The Atkins diet was developed around the concept that “The main factor that causes us to put on weight is our consumption of refined carbs, especially sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, and flour” (Nordqvist). Therefore this diet focuses on eating quality carbs and proteins.  This diet is often known as a carbohydrate free diet.

This diet is good and similar to another rather common diet called the Zone Diet. This diet calls for “40% carbohydrates, 30% fat, and 30% protein” (Nordqvist). This diet also asks for a control in insulin. This diet, unlike most does not focus on calorie counting. Instead this diet encourages the eating of a well-balanced meal. The Zone Diet places emphasis in eating protein and a good carb such as a fruit or vegetable at every meal.

Some diets are more complicated than others too. But, there are some diets that are commonly regarded as easier to follow than most. One of these diets is the Weight Watchers diet. This diet is easier because it is based around a simple idea of a point system. When you are on this diet you can eat whatever you want as long as the total of the foods you eat does not exceed the maximum “credits” per day. Weight Watchers as often seen as a simpler diet because “You can eat whatever you want—provided you stick to your daily PointsPlus target, a number based on your gender, weight, height, and age” (U.S. News) Therefore, this diet is regarded as being flexible, realistic, and filling. There are also optional meetings that you can chose to attend for extra support and help with dieting.

Another rather easy diet is the Jenny Craig Diet. Unlike, Weight Watchers the meals provided on Jenny Craig are pre-packed. Better yet, “In February 2011, Consumer Reports pitted Jenny’s packaged meals against those of its rival, Nutrisystem, and concluded that Jenny took the cake” (U.S. News). Due to its prepackaged nature this diet is ideal for those that don’t like to cook.
